Description:The 17-acre Warnham Millpond with its reedbeds, islands and marginal vegetation dominates the 92-acre site of Warnham Local Nature Reserve, but there is a lot more to see. Millpond Plantation and Walnut Tree Plantation are a mix of ancient woodland, conifer plantation and mixed broad-leaf plantation. Mill Meadow is a species-rich unimproved grassland with an area of marsh including three dipping ponds. Running through the middle of the reserve is the floodplain that during the winter becomes overwhelmed when Boldings Brook bursts its banks. The flood plain includes a large area of wet grassland and an area of wet woodland known as Willow Carr before reaching the Millpond.
FacilitiesThe Nature Reserve has an ample car park with parking for coaches on request. The interactive visitor centre has an exhibition room running displays and exhibits throughout the year. The Café serves light refreshments and snacks and the toilets (including disabled) have baby changing facilities. Out on the Reserve there is Heron Hide and Tern Hide overlooking the Millpond, Rail Hide looking at woodland wildlife and the leaflet-guided Millpond Nature Trail. The Millpond Nature Trail utilises a selection of the easy access footpaths, bridges and extensive boardwalks through these habitats pointing out areas of interest, history, site management and wildlife. Click on a location of the site for more details and photographs.
